Fairytale AU Meme [Open]

Pick one of my characters and I'll toss a disney/fairytale au scenario at you! I've got some rough descriptions of their roles below. You can start, or you can just give their name in a top-level and I’ll write something up. These can be shippy or not, although given the descriptions I’ll probably tend towards that way unless you tell me you don’t want that

Alec: Damsel in distress, suicidal, who thinks this whole thing is stupid and this story can be ended if anyone at any point just solves the problem of the ‘princess’ for good

Annabel: Necromancer, who tries to find love by bringing hers back from the dead

Dominic: Knight, who’s pretty sure that he’s supposed to slay the ‘dragon’ but might end up falling in love with him/her instead

I-No: The evil witch, finds delight in other people’s suffering

Ivy: The persecuted heroine, who badly wants to believe in love but doesn’t really believe that it can trump the facts of life

Kai: Prince charming, careful and earnest, hugely romantic who thinks that life’s course can be changed by love

Ky: Either the hero, earnest but not very good at people, or the damsel in distress who’s going to apologize for having to be rescued

Rose: Ghost girl, who will accept a coat in exchange for being able to touch and feel for a while

Sol: The dragon, why are you waking him up from his nap just to rescue a princess? He doesn’t have time for this crap.

Valentine: The evil king whose goal in all of this is power and also just seeing the ordinary people scramble

Ryoji will come to the tower a few minutes after sundown- he is considerably larger now, though still not huge as most dragons. He's the same shape as he was before, at least, sleek and black with those bright blue eyes as he lands on the Tower. "Ready?"

Now he looks like he can hold Kai, and Kai finds himself feeling a little intimidated for a moment. He stands where he is, before he regains himself.

"Yeah."

He still has all the mannerisms of the dorky little dragon if that helps?

Ryoji hums, regarding Kai for a moment. "Should I carry you or do you want to get on my back and hold on?"

That does help a lot, besides, this is how it needed to work.

"On your back, if you can carry my things?"

"Ok!" He'll crouch down so Kai can climb up on his back. The scales around his neck can be held on to, but for the most part he's very streamlined.

Kai takes up a careful position, and if he's partly terrified that he's going to fall off he's also really excited.

Ryoji will be exceptionally careful as he takes Kai's things and then lifts up into the air, his powerful wings beating around the boy on his back. He'll soar off towards the mountains, giving Kai a much better view than he would have ever had from his window.

"Wow." The wind tears Kai's words away from him, but he's consumed in watching what's around and below them regardless of whether or not the dragon can hear his awe.

The dragon thinks he hears something, but he can't really respond like this anyway. They're in the air for a little bit, but soon enough Ryoji's swooping down into the mountains, landing outside of a cave. "Here we are!" he says, sinking down to let Kai slide off.

The front cavern is pretty big (it's where a dragon lives, it has to be), and there are a couple passages that look like they probably go to some other caves. It's dark, but it looks like there's quite a collection of candles and such over in one of the corners.

That's okay, Kai will probably say a lot more.

"This is really neat," Kai says, sliding off of Ryoji's back in order to investigate. It all looks very romantic and just like it should in the stories, minus the old skeletons. But Kai's quite fine with those not being present.

There's a bunch of books next to where the candles are, and many of them are in different languages. Other than that, this first room is pretty bare- there's more stuff in the back caves- except for what appears to be a stuffed animal in the corner.

"Thanks!" he says cheerfully, putting Kai's stuff down in a bare spot before going to settle in his corner with the teddy bear. He won't stop Kai from exploring.

Kai watches for a moment, and he can feel a frown overtaking his face. Maybe he should have thought this through a little more.

"Err? How old are you?"

Probably. don't hate his hoard!

Ryoji looks up, thinking about this. "....113? About? I think." If Kai knows anything about dragons, then he'll know that Ryoji is the rough equivilant of a teenager. Even if he doesn't, it should be pretty clear that he's not an adult dragon.

"One hundred and thirteen!" Okay. Maybe he's pretty old. Maybe there's something else wrong. "Do you have any...children?"

Maybe Kai should know more about dragons.

Kai will probably learn more about dragons.

Ryoji isn't sure what to make of his surprise- maybe it's because he's so young. He gets that from other dragons a lot. Though... then Kai asks about kids. "Um... no," he says, very puzzled, "I'm not really old enough for that..."

"I'm 18," Kai says, frown on his lips.

"And I'm old enough although I don't have any yet. I'll have to get married, first, which means there has to be an alliance that the kingdom needs."

[dangerouslyinlove]

"You're 18?" Whaaat. Though, wait. "Oh, that's right. Humans only live about a century, right?" At most. It's so weird, humans are babies! "I guess I'm old enough for it to happen, but... usually dragons don't find mates for a while."

The second part is confusing, and Ryoji watches him curiously. "An alliance for what?"

Kai wants to ask about how long dragons live, but there are other questions, and he should focus on answering Ryoji's questions because Ryoji is the one who kidnapped/rescued him.

"Protection sometimes. Or land. Or both. Sometimes when two countries are fighting they'll marry the prince and princess so their children will have both. Or if they need allies because they're being attacked."

Ryoji frowns, thinking that over. "So... other people pick for you?" he asks. He might not know all the stories like Kai does, but that seems... really unromantic. "Did you not want that to happen?" You asked to be kidnapped, after all.

"It's less that they're picking for me and more that they're picking for the country." And he's just incidental. "It's not my first choice." His first choice is marrying a daring rescuer!

[dangerouslyinlove]

That somehow makes that even worse. "Yeah, I can see why not." He wouldn't want his mother picking who he's going to spend the rest of his life with. "Would they let you marry someone you liked if you found them first?"

"It depends. Probably." Maybe. "If they were a princess from another kingdom or something. Not if, like, they were a guard."

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Oh." That sucks. "...I don't think a princess would come rescue you. But, maybe....?" He's just pretty sure that's not what normally happens.

[tothealtar]

"Maybe. Or a prince? I don't know. Or maybe I just need some more time to myself, so I don't have to worry about...any of that."

That's true. Ryoji hums quietly, curling up on himself. "Do you want to keep it secret that you're here for a little bit, then?" he asks.
