Fairytale AU Meme [Open]

Pick one of my characters and I'll toss a disney/fairytale au scenario at you! I've got some rough descriptions of their roles below. You can start, or you can just give their name in a top-level and I’ll write something up. These can be shippy or not, although given the descriptions I’ll probably tend towards that way unless you tell me you don’t want that

Alec: Damsel in distress, suicidal, who thinks this whole thing is stupid and this story can be ended if anyone at any point just solves the problem of the ‘princess’ for good

Annabel: Necromancer, who tries to find love by bringing hers back from the dead

Dominic: Knight, who’s pretty sure that he’s supposed to slay the ‘dragon’ but might end up falling in love with him/her instead

I-No: The evil witch, finds delight in other people’s suffering

Ivy: The persecuted heroine, who badly wants to believe in love but doesn’t really believe that it can trump the facts of life

Kai: Prince charming, careful and earnest, hugely romantic who thinks that life’s course can be changed by love

Ky: Either the hero, earnest but not very good at people, or the damsel in distress who’s going to apologize for having to be rescued

Rose: Ghost girl, who will accept a coat in exchange for being able to touch and feel for a while

Sol: The dragon, why are you waking him up from his nap just to rescue a princess? He doesn’t have time for this crap.

Valentine: The evil king whose goal in all of this is power and also just seeing the ordinary people scramble

Kai will probably learn more about dragons.

Ryoji isn't sure what to make of his surprise- maybe it's because he's so young. He gets that from other dragons a lot. Though... then Kai asks about kids. "Um... no," he says, very puzzled, "I'm not really old enough for that..."

"I'm 18," Kai says, frown on his lips.

"And I'm old enough although I don't have any yet. I'll have to get married, first, which means there has to be an alliance that the kingdom needs."

"You're 18?" Whaaat. Though, wait. "Oh, that's right. Humans only live about a century, right?" At most. It's so weird, humans are babies! "I guess I'm old enough for it to happen, but... usually dragons don't find mates for a while."

The second part is confusing, and Ryoji watches him curiously. "An alliance for what?"

Kai wants to ask about how long dragons live, but there are other questions, and he should focus on answering Ryoji's questions because Ryoji is the one who kidnapped/rescued him.

"Protection sometimes. Or land. Or both. Sometimes when two countries are fighting they'll marry the prince and princess so their children will have both. Or if they need allies because they're being attacked."

Ryoji frowns, thinking that over. "So... other people pick for you?" he asks. He might not know all the stories like Kai does, but that seems... really unromantic. "Did you not want that to happen?" You asked to be kidnapped, after all.

"It's less that they're picking for me and more that they're picking for the country." And he's just incidental. "It's not my first choice." His first choice is marrying a daring rescuer!

That somehow makes that even worse. "Yeah, I can see why not." He wouldn't want his mother picking who he's going to spend the rest of his life with. "Would they let you marry someone you liked if you found them first?"

"It depends. Probably." Maybe. "If they were a princess from another kingdom or something. Not if, like, they were a guard."

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Oh." That sucks. "...I don't think a princess would come rescue you. But, maybe....?" He's just pretty sure that's not what normally happens.

"Maybe. Or a prince? I don't know. Or maybe I just need some more time to myself, so I don't have to worry about...any of that."

That's true. Ryoji hums quietly, curling up on himself. "Do you want to keep it secret that you're here for a little bit, then?" he asks.

Kai's smile is wide and a little excited. "I think that would be good."

He's going to fluff out his pillow a little.

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Ok." Ryoji smiles back, settling into his spot and looking out at the night sky. He has a friend to talk to now! This'll be great!

Kai is going to focus on falling asleep, or trying to. He's still too excited though. "Are you still awake?" he whispers after a while.

The dragon opens one of his eyes, peering over at Kai. "Yeah," he says- Ryoji's pretty thrilled too, after all.

Kai's just going to focus on getting to know his dragon friend now. "How long have you lived here?"

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Um..." Ryoji has to think about that one for a moment. "Not very long. Maybe 30 years, ish?"

[tothealtar]

A huff of laughter. "That seems like a while to me. Do you like it here?"

[dangerouslyinlove]

That's because you're a baby. "Yeah! I mean, I wish people wouldn't get so upset when I flew over places, but..."

[tothealtar]

That is a rude thing to call someone. "But how can they see you? I wouldn't have if you hadn't stopped." Kai is still whispering, but obviously stealth mode includes Ryoji being tiny.

But it's true. "Because I've only been able to do the small thing recently," Ryoji replies, knowing exactly what he's thinking of, "I was gonna go look at it like that but then I get distracted." By you.

Then Ryoji is kidnapping babies! How does he feel about that?

"Oh. What other things can you do?"

The baby asked him to!

"Um..." Ryoji thinks. "Well, I can breath fire. And fly, obviously. I can do more simple magic things, like levitating stuff and conjuring basic things. Form changes are just kind of tricky."

[tothealtar]

"Can you show me your fire tomorrow?" If Kai sounds a little in awe, well, he should be.

"But you mean you could change into something else, if you tried?"

"Sure!" Ryoji is totally happy to show that off. It's one of the more natural things for him to do.

He considers this before nodding. "Yeah, probably! I'd just need some practice."
