Fairytale AU Meme [Open]

Pick one of my characters and I'll toss a disney/fairytale au scenario at you! I've got some rough descriptions of their roles below. You can start, or you can just give their name in a top-level and I’ll write something up. These can be shippy or not, although given the descriptions I’ll probably tend towards that way unless you tell me you don’t want that

Alec: Damsel in distress, suicidal, who thinks this whole thing is stupid and this story can be ended if anyone at any point just solves the problem of the ‘princess’ for good

Annabel: Necromancer, who tries to find love by bringing hers back from the dead

Dominic: Knight, who’s pretty sure that he’s supposed to slay the ‘dragon’ but might end up falling in love with him/her instead

I-No: The evil witch, finds delight in other people’s suffering

Ivy: The persecuted heroine, who badly wants to believe in love but doesn’t really believe that it can trump the facts of life

Kai: Prince charming, careful and earnest, hugely romantic who thinks that life’s course can be changed by love

Ky: Either the hero, earnest but not very good at people, or the damsel in distress who’s going to apologize for having to be rescued

Rose: Ghost girl, who will accept a coat in exchange for being able to touch and feel for a while

Sol: The dragon, why are you waking him up from his nap just to rescue a princess? He doesn’t have time for this crap.

Valentine: The evil king whose goal in all of this is power and also just seeing the ordinary people scramble

Well, that entirely depends. Because a dragon landing on the roof of a castle in broad daylight is kind of cause for alarm. Enough that Ryoji is getting swords and stuff pointed at him.

Kai can't really stand between Ryoji and the people but to his credit he does try. "Stand down, by the order of your Prince." That works, at least.

It does, and it gives enough time that after Kai slips off Ryoji is turning into a tiny dragon and hiding behind him. But naturally, everyone wants to know where the hell Kai has been and why he has a dragon with him.

Kai does his best to explain, heavy on the enthusiasm, and then he pauses. "I would like to introduce my friend to my father." So they're being escorted that way, and Kai needs to think of a way to get Ryoji into a human with clothes on.

Ryoji does not like these guards, and therefore might flap his way into Kai's arms to stay close to him there. Turns out that the king is in some kind of meeting right now, so that'll buy Kai a couple of minutes- not too long, seeing as a guard is going to telling him that his son has reappeared, but.

"We're going to drop these things off in my room," Kai says, and when he speaks with authority they do obey him, which gives him a moment to tell Ryoji to change, and then holds out the clothes for him.

"Oh! Ok." Ryoji likes this plan. Maybe people will glare at him less. He will talk to Kai when he's slipping on clothes- he's getting better at that. "They all seem kind of mad..."

"They probably think you kidnapped me." Kai says it cheerfully enough, mostly because it sounds like an easy impression to correct.

Ryoji tilts his head, considering this. "But... isn't that what you wanted me to do?" Those were definitely the words used.

"It'll be different with them, if they understand I went along with it." Kai pauses. "Are you ready to go?"

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Alright..." He's not sure, but he trusts Kai. And look, he even opted for the not sparkly gold shirt! "Yeah, I'm ready."

Kai shifts to throw his arms around Ryoji in a quick hug, and then he's got Ryoji's hand in his and he's taking him to the throne room.

Ryoji doesn't have enough time to burrow his face into Kai's shoulder before his hand is being grabbed. The guards are very confused about where the dragon.

Kai doesn't explain to them because he doesn't...think to, and he's focused on presenting his new friend to his father. So after a moment they get escorted on, and Kai lets go of Ryoji's hand as they enter the room.

Ryoji is very nervous with all these new people who clearly don't like him around, so he'll stick close to Kai, looking up at the king as they enter. ...That just makes him want to hide behind Kai a little, but he won't! He will be brave!!!

"I met a dragon!" Kai declares, before his father can say anything. "And I think he'd make a valuable ally for our kingdom." Funnily enough, Emperor Rikan doesn't look very impressed.

Ryoji does not like the way this conversation is going already. He'll just... try to not look like he's hiding behind Kai and also looking as non-threatening as possible. (The second part is easy.)

"Where have you been?" Rikan asks, and Kai knows this isn't going well. "We've all been very worried about you."

"Oh," Kai says, and then, "There wasn't any need to worry."

Ryoji pokes Kai a little to get his attention. "Didn't you leave a note?" he asks, quietly.

Kai nods, momentarily indignant.

"Not precisely a reassuring one," Rikan says, though it's followed by a sigh. "I'm glad you appear unharmed."

Oh... well, Ryoji has no idea what Kai wrote. But his dad being glad is a good sign, right? (He still might hold onto Kai's hand, though- this is kind of scary...)

Kai's note had made mention of a dragon, so...

"You do realize what being a Prince means?" Rikan says.

"Yes, of course."

"I'm not convinced. Why did you bring this creature here?"

"He's not a creature, he's my friend! Besides, maybe he can help us."

Yes, that might be cause for a little concern.

Ryoji winces at being called a 'creature,' but he sighs. He should probably be kind of used to that. "Um... yeah! I'm pretty sure I could be helpful." Somehow. What can dragons do that people can't...?

"We're trying to avoid a war, not start one."

Kai sighs, before he brightens. "What if we defeated the dragon threat? Then they'd be in our debt. Without a marriage."

Ryoji, who is not following this conversation well at all, is naturally not sure how he feels about this next proposal. In his experience, after all, there has only been one way to defeat a dragon and it's not by being nice to them. "Kai...?" he says quietly, blue eyes wide and hurt.
