Fairytale AU Meme [Open]

Pick one of my characters and I'll toss a disney/fairytale au scenario at you! I've got some rough descriptions of their roles below. You can start, or you can just give their name in a top-level and I’ll write something up. These can be shippy or not, although given the descriptions I’ll probably tend towards that way unless you tell me you don’t want that

Alec: Damsel in distress, suicidal, who thinks this whole thing is stupid and this story can be ended if anyone at any point just solves the problem of the ‘princess’ for good

Annabel: Necromancer, who tries to find love by bringing hers back from the dead

Dominic: Knight, who’s pretty sure that he’s supposed to slay the ‘dragon’ but might end up falling in love with him/her instead

I-No: The evil witch, finds delight in other people’s suffering

Ivy: The persecuted heroine, who badly wants to believe in love but doesn’t really believe that it can trump the facts of life

Kai: Prince charming, careful and earnest, hugely romantic who thinks that life’s course can be changed by love

Ky: Either the hero, earnest but not very good at people, or the damsel in distress who’s going to apologize for having to be rescued

Rose: Ghost girl, who will accept a coat in exchange for being able to touch and feel for a while

Sol: The dragon, why are you waking him up from his nap just to rescue a princess? He doesn’t have time for this crap.

Valentine: The evil king whose goal in all of this is power and also just seeing the ordinary people scramble

Kai can think later. He needs to get some rest, and Ryoji will help by cuddling him to him. Cuddling makes it harder to think, he's pretty sure. And he's just really, really happy Kai's back.

It's almost remarkable how safe Kai feels, nestled against Ryoji, and how well he sleeps. Better than he has in weeks, that much is clear, and when he wakes he does feel better.

And he knows that his level of fear is something he cannot allow his citizens to bear. "I think it's going to need to be war, swift and decisive. How many troops could you carry inside of her borders?"

Because that means the same thing as 'good morning', right?

That is not at all what 'good morning' is.

Ryoji transformed back into a dragon sometime in the early morning hours- he can hold the human form for much longer now, but he can't quite make it through the night. He's still a little groggy when he wakes up, so initially Kai's comment is greeted with some blinking.

"What?" Hang on, Ryoji will just rub at his face to wake himself up a little more. "Um... I don't know? It might depend on how heavy their armor and stuff is. Probably ten, more without armor. But I could do more than one trip."

10. Hmm. It's a possibility, at least, and 20 would be easier. More than two trips would probably take too long, unless they could hide somewhere. Still, it's a voyage of too many days by foot, so it's not as though they could be expected.

"How long to get to Levana's castle from the border?"

"Not long," Ryoji answers, clued into the conversation properly now. ...Not gonna stop him from nuzzling Kai's face, though. He thinks you probably still need more resting time. "Usually it would be less than an hour, but with people it might be a little bit longer."

Kai blushes a little at the nuzzle, but otherwise tries to keep his thread of conversation. "Do you need to rest more before you'll be ready?" Clearly Kai is rested enough, he came up with a plan and everything!

Ryoji nudges at his face. "Do you?" Coming up with a plan doesn't mean everything is fine, you looked super miserable yesterday and you probably need more sleep. Or possibly hugs.

Kai smiles, and it manages to be mostly positive. He can sleep as long as he wants once they're done and he feels well enough to manage this.

"I asked after you. I'm fine."

Mostly positive is better than it was before, but still. Ryoji turns into a tiny dragon and crawls into Kai's lap, looking up at him. "Are you sure?" he asks, "If you're still tired... it's important for you to be at your best, before we do this."

Kai grits his teeth and picks up Ryoji. "Yes, I'm sure. Don't keep asking after that." He sets Ryoji on the floor next to him. "I'm still waiting for your answer."

Ryoji sighs. "I'm fine. Do you want to go now?" That's the answer he's afraid of, really.

"Yes. Don't worry. It will be fine." Or it won't, but in that case Kai will probably be dead and Ryoji won't be able to call him out on it.

That is not fine at all!! Ryoji will flutter up to sit on Kai's shoulder, not quite wanting to leave just yet. He... has his suspicions what will happen if this all goes wrong. "Don't you need to eat or something?"

"My men will need to time to gather their forces. I can eat while they're doing that, and you're recovering." See, no time to worry.

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Promise?" He's not taking you unless you promise you will eat food.

[tothealtar]

"Yes I promise." Unless circumstances change, but that's not expected, so it's fine.

"Now let's go."

[dangerouslyinlove]

"Alright." He's not sure he believes you, but his puppy dragon eyes don't appear to be working so he'll get ready to fly them back to the castle.

Kai really does have the best of intentions, it's just that he knows there are some risks.

Still, they'll find out how it will go once they get started.

He morphs into his larger form again and, once Kai is on securely, takes off towards the castle. It's a little bit of a mystery how they actually get Kai in the castle without alerting Levana, but they do and he can round up his troops.

And Ryoji will make sure he eats.

Ryoji doesn't have to do much, because shifting the orders from searching for their lost Emperor and mobilizing to attack gives Kai plenty of time to find a bite.

It's harder to want to eat, but his promise to Ryoji does him at least this much good, and Kai shoves in bites in between his pacing while he waits for the right people to gather.

Oh good. Ryoji will curl up on Kai's shoulders then, if he's allowed, resting up a little bit more before flying everyone out. ...He hopes Kai stays safely here, when that happens.

Of course Kai has other plans, and he doesn't mean for them to be up for discussion.

"This is the first group." And it includes him.

Damnit Kai. "Why are you going?" He didn't agree to this!!

"So someone can direct the battle and accept surrenders." Not that directing the fight will be done from the sidelines.

Kaiii. You better have, like. The most armor. Humans are squishy. "Have you done this before?"
