Fairytale AU Meme [Open]

Pick one of my characters and I'll toss a disney/fairytale au scenario at you! I've got some rough descriptions of their roles below. You can start, or you can just give their name in a top-level and I’ll write something up. These can be shippy or not, although given the descriptions I’ll probably tend towards that way unless you tell me you don’t want that

Alec: Damsel in distress, suicidal, who thinks this whole thing is stupid and this story can be ended if anyone at any point just solves the problem of the ‘princess’ for good

Annabel: Necromancer, who tries to find love by bringing hers back from the dead

Dominic: Knight, who’s pretty sure that he’s supposed to slay the ‘dragon’ but might end up falling in love with him/her instead

I-No: The evil witch, finds delight in other people’s suffering

Ivy: The persecuted heroine, who badly wants to believe in love but doesn’t really believe that it can trump the facts of life

Kai: Prince charming, careful and earnest, hugely romantic who thinks that life’s course can be changed by love

Ky: Either the hero, earnest but not very good at people, or the damsel in distress who’s going to apologize for having to be rescued

Rose: Ghost girl, who will accept a coat in exchange for being able to touch and feel for a while

Sol: The dragon, why are you waking him up from his nap just to rescue a princess? He doesn’t have time for this crap.

Valentine: The evil king whose goal in all of this is power and also just seeing the ordinary people scramble

Oh that's so cute. Melissa hums tenderly, the sound carrying over the waves. "An alliance?" she muses, "With what sort of terms?" She highly doubts they'll be ones she likes.

"We will send you more than you usually have cause to see, and you'll let those who fly the flag of our empire by, and those who fly that of our enemy you'll dash upon the rocks."

...This is such a stupid idea.

Yeah Melissa is beyond not convinced. First of all, they actually expect her to pay attention to flags? Please. And she's quite sure their enemies would learn to not pass her way. They're not even promising to not hunt her or anything yet- just send more her way. "An interesting proposition," she says, smiling gracefully and the sing-song quality of her voice more pronounced, "Is that all?"

“No. Of course not.” More chilling to Dominic than the fact that if he messes this up they’re probably all dead, every person on this boat, is the fact that he’s been set a task by his government, and it wouldn’t do to disappoint them. He’s sworn to uphold the throne of his king, and he takes his loyalties seriously. Seriously enough to accept being sent across the sea.

“In exchange we would not only not attack you, but protect you from those who come prepared. There are a number of powerful witches who have sworn an oath to my King. We would also allow you to expand your territory to a larger part of the water and include a strait not far from here.” Which will at least keep their enemies from being able to avoid her without taking large detours, that could be equally fatal. But this is literally a deal with a demon, and Dominic is sure they’re going to be dooming themselves, if she agrees.

That... is much more interesting, though Melissa still doesn't particularly like the idea of being under pledge from a king. But there's a way she can play with this still... stall for time, and see if she can have a little fun in the process.

"Very interesting," she hums, flattening down on her rock, "I don't really like shouting over the waves. If you would like to talk to me, then make it to my rock. That would certainly show me you were worth it." Whether or not he decides it should be just him or his whole ship is up to him- but navigating the ship through the rocks won't be easy.

Dominic lets his eyes close for a second, but the sigh doesn’t escape his lips, and he doesn’t allow himself to hesitate for long. He’d known what he was getting in for, and the fact that he doesn’t like it doesn’t mean anything. If this is a suicide mission, that might still be better than it working.

So he shrugs off his coat and, with meticulous care, disarms himself. As much as he might want to kill the siren, potion or no he’s well aware of the fact that he doesn’t stand a chance, and it’s better not to make her feel threatened for the sake of feeling better. Then he lets the sailors lower him into the water and swims to meet her.

She'll sing as he approaches, which undoubtedly makes everyone involved nervous, but she can't help it. Singing is what she does. You can't tell a siren not to sing. The fact that she might also be trying to kill him totally isn't an issue here. Obviously. Melissa just needs to test how devoted to his cause he is.

Dominic might not be really devoted to his cause at all, but he is absolutely devoted to his King, and it's for that which he's out here. The potion is strong enough, at least, that he hasn't cast himself against a rock or down under the waves before he reaches her.

"Yes?"

Hmm. She's honestly a little disappointed he's not dead, but she'll pull herself up to properly face him. "Very nice. I guess now we can talk properly."

He's going to tread water, carefully, trying to conserve strength. "Is there a specific problem you have with the offer?"

"I'm suppose I'm just curious as to why it's being made now," she says, tilting her head to the side, "I've been here for many years, and it's not like my location has been particularly secret."

"Because it's useful to make it now." Was he supposed to keep tat a secret? Or at least make it sound better? Oh well. "It's a risk for them to send anyone to talk to you, ma'am."

"I am aware." That's why she does it. But she'll lean forward a little, tilting her head curiously at him. "And how do you feel, about this venture?"

Dominic doesn't look away, but it's tempting. He feels a little pinned under her regard. "My personal feelings aren't relevant."

"Which is another way of saying you don't approve," she chuckles, "Though I am curious; why would you not approve when your king does?"

"I believe we're concerned about different things." Perhaps his King is right, but Dominic doesn't have to like every sacrifice they're asked to make.

"And what is it that concerns you?" Let the siren be your therapist, Dominic. Let it aaaall out.

"You would not understand." He'd rather not.

"Why would you say that?" she hums, "If we are to be friends, I would like to know more about you."

"We're not." His stubbornness is kicking into full gear now.

"Oh?" Melissa makes a great show of seeming disappointed, so much so that it might be mistaken as genuine. "But if we are not friends, then how can I not sink your ship?"

Not sink his... That is almost certainly a threat. "You could not do it because you're going to be allies with my King."

Just a friendly reminder! "Oh, certainly. But that all seems so far away to me. I general prefer to be more personal."

Known as a threat by most people in the business.

"Are you threatening to destroy the ship, ma'am?" Because when it doubt be direct, apparently.

Apparently. The bluntness gets her to laugh. "I wouldn't say that. Just that in general I find more incentive to be good to those I am friendly with."

Which means she totally is if you don't start being nice to her.
